Where will the school be located? That is a basic inquiry from our many interested families and we understand the critical importance of this question. The Steering Committee has spent a lot of its time these past few months scouring the Medfield area and surrounding towns in search of an appropriate home for the school. As I mentioned in a previous blog, we have viewed more than 30 potential sites. It may sound time-consuming – and it is – but it is far from tedious work. It is enjoyable to tour different sites and assess whether a certain structure might be convertible into classroom space or whether certain outdoor amenities will serve our educational philosophy of getting the boys exposed to the wonders of nature. As one can imagine, the parameters for what we need to operate a school for boys in grades three through eight are somewhat unique. While we have toured a few conventional school buildings that have come on the market, we have also viewed both commercial and residential properties. We need to factor in scalability as we grow from three or four grades in our first year to six or even perhaps more grades sometime in the future. And all the time keeping a watchful eye on our budget.
As a group, we know that the educational content can be taught in just about any setting. Nevertheless, placing young boys in an environment of natural beauty helps them learn to care for the material goods at their disposal, to feel responsibility for their surroundings, and to help others live order. Remember the development of virtues is core tenet of our mission of educating the whole person.
For all these reasons, we are giving serious consideration to where we eventually site the school. We hope to be able to announce the school location in the near future. Take a tour of this website and revisit this blog every month. I will keep you posted on the many developments leading up to a September 2018 Opening Day.
