The famous philosopher Socrates once mused: “It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.” The ancient Greeks lived out this musing through being fierce warriors and through intense training by way of the sport of wrestling. Wrestling provided the testing ground that helped young Spartans transition from boyhood to manhood; it is a sport that demands physical, mental, and emotional self-mastery.
Through this camp, your son will be introduced to the rules of wrestling, learn and grow in technique, and establish a foundational and practical approach to strength and conditioning. The camp will consist of concentrated instructional time, opportunities for live wrestling, fun mat-games, and strength and conditioning. At the end of the week, the boys will compete in a mini-tournament against peers of similar weight to showcase to families the fruits of their hard work and dedication developed throughout the week.
Mr. Sheehan will run the camp; he is a 3x Maine high school state champion, 1x New England high school champion, and a member of the Maine Wrestling Hall of Fame. He also serves as the 8th grade homeroom teacher at Sparhawk, teaching various math and science classes.
